Attendance can be in person at the Atlantic Beach Community Center at 1010 32nd Avenue South, Atlantic Beach, SC. 29582 or virtually via Zoom Meeting. \u00a0Join <\/span><span class=\"s5\">through Zoom <\/span><span class=\"s5\">with the link and passcode provided.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/orange-k12-nc-us.zoom.us\/j\/97245828102?pwd=djdLeUJGSm1Rc1MxbEk3dDVGN2dPQT09\"><span class=\"s6\">https:\/\/orange-k12-nc-us.zoom.us\/j\/97245828102?pwd=djdLeUJGSm1Rc1MxbEk3dDVGN2dPQT09<\/span><\/a><span class=\"s7\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s7\">Meeting ID: 972 4582 8102<\/span><span class=\"s7\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s7\">Passcode: 969536<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s8\">Seminar participants include the Small Business Administration (SBA), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), SCORE, I-Hope Women&#8217;s Business Center, Small Business Development Center at Coastal Carolina, various <\/span><span class=\"s8\">lenders,<\/span><span class=\"s8\"> and builders.\u00a0 The goal is to meet with the residents and non-resident landowners of Atlantic Beach to discuss business opportunities, financing and building designs (commercial and residential) and to provide expertise and assistance that promotes grown along the Atlantic Beach commercial corridors, 30th Avenue South and 31st Avenue South.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s5\">Lenders <\/span><span class=\"s5\">are <\/span><span class=\"s5\">provid<\/span><span class=\"s5\">ing<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> lending products that would best benefit\u00a0the citizens of Atlantic Beach to\u00a0finance commercial and residential buildings\u00a0to promote growth in Atlantic Beach.<\/span><span class=\"s7\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s5\">Builders <\/span><span class=\"s5\">are <\/span><span class=\"s5\">pr<\/span><span class=\"s5\">esenting<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> displays, <\/span><span class=\"s5\">mock-ups,<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> and floorplans of beach rental homes <\/span><span class=\"s5\">with<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> commercial storefront options on the first level with residential on the second and third floors, <\/span><span class=\"s5\">like<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> the style prominent in the Market Commons development in Myrtle Beach, SC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s8\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s8\">What makes this economic development series to timely and meaningful to many is that after years of disinvestment in the town brought on by desegregation, a residential renaissance is occurring in Atlantic Beach.\u00a0 Within the last five years more than 30 new homes have been constructed with values of $300,000 to greater than $1,000,000.\u00a0 Now, councilmen David and Campbell are looking to jumpstart the commercial revitalization.\u00a0 There actions are supported by the polls taken of people who live and own property in Atlantic Beach.\u00a0 These polls show that the preferred type of development is small-town, entrepreneurial, low-density development.\u00a0 Most people favor a walkable main street, lined with unique shops, boutiques, <\/span><span class=\"s8\">galleries<\/span><span class=\"s8\"> and eateries &#8212; consistent with the historic character and quaint charm of the town.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s8\">However, the current majority of the three longest-serving council members are supporting and fast-tracking plans for a towering 21-story condo\/hotel complex and an 11-story parking structure on the ocean front and 2nd row.\u00a0 A plan that many feel will result in the ultimate loss of the cultural integrity of Atlantic Beach and a real threat to the revocation of the town&#8217;s municipal charter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s8\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s8\">Councilman-elect John David adds, &#8220;The majority of our voting and tax-paying residents <\/span><span class=\"s8\">d<\/span><span class=\"s8\">o not want a high rise on our beach front.\u00a0 I stand with the majority.\u00a0 The negative environmental impacts of a 20-story high rise and a<\/span><span class=\"s8\">n<\/span><span class=\"s8\"> 11-story parking garage for more than 400 cars blocking our beach would be a detriment to our town.\u00a0 The town council should be protecting Atlantic Beach&#8217;s natural habitat, maintaining our public beach access, and considering the impact on our local infrastructure and ecosystems.\u00a0 We <\/span><span class=\"s9\">must<\/span><span class=\"s8\"> preserve the history and the culture of Atlantic Beach for future generations to enjoy.\u00a0 My co-council Mr. Campbell and I are committed and our supporting new commercial and residential development that protects and preserves the town&#8217;s historic character.\u00a0 We&#8217;re looking forward to the positive outcomes from the economic development series and what it will mean for the town and <\/span><span class=\"s8\">the positive transformation of <\/span><span class=\"s8\">our Main Streets.\u00a0 We also feel that the council must abide by the deed restrictions from the 1930s limiting development to residential construction on the oceanfront parcels.\u00a0 I stand with the people of Atlantic Beach.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s5\">To support <\/span><span class=\"s5\">the councilmen <\/span><span class=\"s5\">and<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> their<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> e<\/span><span class=\"s5\">ffort to preserve the integrity of Atlantic Beach, we invite you to contribute <\/span><span class=\"s5\">our community action organization, STARD <\/span><span class=\"s5\">via our website at<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/no-beachfront-high-rises.com\/\"><span class=\"s11\">https:\/\/no-beachfront-high-rises.com\/<\/span><\/a><span class=\"s12\">. \u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s5\">Your generous donations make a difference in the fight to safeguard this iconic community.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"default-style\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"default-style\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/LstBlakBeachTwn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/LstBlakBeachTwn\/<\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"default-style\"><a href=\"https:\/\/no-beachfront-high-rises.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/no-beachfront-high-rises.com\/<\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"default-style\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LstBlakBeachTwn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/twitter.com\/LstBlakBeachTwn<\/a><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><\/h5>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Atlantic Beach, SC \u2014 Atlantic Beach\u2019s first ever Economic Development Seminar Series is presented by Councilman-elect John David and Councilman Lamar Campbell, the town\u2019s two newest councilmen.
